The three-dimensional map of the capital of Wielkopolska was ranked 4th among 40 models of cities around the world. The ranking was published by the International Journal of Geographic Information Science.
- Poznań is the first city in Poland to have built a 3D model for its entire territory.
- In the ranking published in the scientific journal International Journal of Geographic Information Science, only Helsinki, Amsterdam and Espoo are ahead of Poznań.
- The analysis appeared in the article “Assessment and comparative analysis of three-dimensional city models”.
– We made the project available to users in 2018. Since then, the model has already been recognized in Poland, which has resulted, among other things, in the award IT Wings in Administration in the category of e-services for the citizen. Today, this innovative three-dimensional model has been appreciated on the international stage, which confirms its high quality and the correct direction of development – says Jarosław Zawadzki, Deputy Director of the Geodesy and Municipal Cadastre Spatial Information System of GEOPOZ .
To evaluate the models, the authors prepared a special “3D City Index” consisting of nearly 50 criteria divided into four categories. They concerned e.g. how the data is presented on the portal, if the model stores historical statistics or if it is free. The thematic content of the model was also assessed: whether it contains, for example, tunnels, bridges, water reservoirs and vegetation.
The 3D model is a practical tool in the hands of the people of Poznań. On the map, they can consult the solar potential of buildings (photovoltaic), air conditioning data, the position of public transport vehicles or information about greenery. The user can also get basic building data, check their height, function or number of floors, and download any object model in one of many formats. The 3D portal also allows you to analyze the shading of all buildings on the map. The distinguishing feature of the urban model is the current update of 3D data and its connection with the 2D map.
The model is an integral part of the spatial information system of the city of Poznań.
