Peace in Ukraine – a priority for Europe
In times of geopolitical destabilization, it is difficult to speak of economic or social stability. Therefore, at this year’s Forum in Davos, the issues of the war in Ukraine were the main topic of many discussions. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stressed that Poland plays and will play a key role in issues related to Ukraine.
– Poland plays the role of a European think tank. We are the ones closest to Ukraine, the most involved – with our NATO allies, of course – in supporting Ukraine. We are often asked for recipes for the future, how we should continue to help Ukraine together, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stressed at the 53rd World Economic Forum in Davos.
In his talks with politicians and businessmen around the world, the head of the Polish government recalled that the war in Ukraine is not over and requires additional support from the free world – mainly in the form of a military, humanitarian and financial aid. The end of the conflict in Ukraine will establish new conditions in the world order. For Poland, it is clear that there is no return to the situation before February 24, 2022.
The Polish House in Davos – a place for discussion
The focus of discussions on Poland and our region of Europe was the Polish House. Topics covered include: the potential of technology in response to crises or strategic investment and security issues in Central and Eastern Europe. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said during the discussion that it is extremely important that after the war in Ukraine the world returns to development – development that will be fairer and more sustainable. The head of the Polish government mentioned, among other things, possible improvements in international taxation and tax havens. He also stressed the importance of investing in renewable energies and nuclear energy. It is the future that we want to trace and the Polish voice is heard in this regard.
– I am happy that “let’s fight together against tax havens” is becoming more and more popular wisdom. I believe that in this way we will also contribute to building a more sustainable and fairer economic and social order for Europe and for Poland.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki also met “face to face” with many CEOs of global companies.
The head of government spoke with business leaders such as Intel, Coca-Cola, Dell, Equinor, AstraZeneca and ArcelorMittal. These are companies with a global reach and a significant impact on the economy, technological development and innovation around the world.
Poland attracts investors
Last year we saw a significant increase in foreign investment in Poland – an increase of around 19% compared to 2020. Everything indicates that the upward trend will continue. The government encourages investors to invest in Poland, and the positive statistics of recent years are a very strong sign of confidence in the business environment.
– What is the lesson we have learned from difficult times – from the pandemic to the current war situation – prompts us to pursue an ambitious investment policy. And that’s what our government has started – said the Prime Minister.
Solid macroeconomic fundamentals, a stable political situation and favorable investment conditions ensured Poland a record value of foreign investments in 2021 – despite the pandemic, PLN 114 billion was invested in our country. This is the fourth best result in the European Union.
