Polish Radio supports the Sports and Tourism Museum in Warsaw and has been its media patron for many years exceptional places.
At the ceremonial gala on October 28, 2022, Sławomir Majcher, the director of the Museum of Sport and Tourism, presented the publisher Krzysztof Kuzak casual diploma.
The Museum of Sport and Tourism in Warsaw was established in 1952. It is one of the oldest such museums in Europe. It has changed location several times and has been at the Żoliborz Olympic Center in Warsaw for several years. Exhibited at the museum we can admire among others a unique collection of Olympic medals and torches, unusual photos, documents and archives and magazines.
Inspire younger generations
The establishment’s mission is to educate and tell the rich and often beautiful history of Polish sport. Here in Żoliborz you can feel the unique atmosphere of the competition and relive all the emotions that accompany the greatest successes of the Poles.
In its collections, numbering almost 60,000 items, it has, among other things: a unique collection of Olympic medals and torches, a kayak of Karol Wojtyła, the future Pope John Paul II, the smallest Olympic book in history or unique memorabilia from 1940 after the International Olympics from the POW plot at Stalag XIIIA Langwasser near Nuremberg.

The Museum of Sport and Tourism collects souvenirs related to Polish sport, its heritage is maintained. More than 40 disciplines were honoured, including, of course, football. Visitors can watch, among other temporary exhibition “The only medal of its kind”. It was inaugurated on September 17, that is, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary the Olympic gold medal won by players under the leadership of Kazimierz Górski.

Treasures of Polish sport
Among the exhibits we can find, among other things, the original bell used to signal the last lap in the summer and winter disciplines. It is made of sand, which is sieved and then burned in a special form. It should be mentioned that about 10% of the exhibits are presented in the permanent exhibition.
Among the exhibits you can see included Irena Szewińska’s shoes and Janusz Sidła’s javelin. In the Museum, you can see how the equipment used during competitions by competitors has evolved over the decades.

The museum also has unique philatelic and numismatic collections, 56 thousand. photography, 37 thousand. books and magazines as well as thousands of documents and archives. The entire collection of the museum is supplemented by film and sound documentation.
Its achievements include more than two hundred temporary exhibitions, presented at its headquarters and in other museums in the country and abroad. In addition to exhibition activities, the museum conducts extensive educational activities aimed primarily at children and adolescents. The museum cooperates with many cultural and educational institutions, organizes methodological meetings with teaching staff and publishes its own monographic and occasional publications. Since 2020, he has been leading the #MuzeumSportuOnline campaign on social networks, which includes a virtual visit to the exhibition, courses, workshops and online exhibitions or thematic programs such as: Sports Book Fair, Known and Unknown Sports , Technology and sport, Women in Sport.
For many years, he has been the organizer of many cyclical cultural events, including: Wanda Rutkiewicz and the Sports Night of Museums or the Football Championships of Cultural Institutions in December. The Museum also hosts sports memorabilia collectors markets, scientific conferences and various types of meetings, promotions and special events.
Due to its merits, it was included by the IOC in the Olympic Museums Network group, which brings together only 22 institutions from around the world.
