When Musk tweeted his “peace plan” for Ukraine, Western pundits and politicians reacted in astonishment. The proposals could come from virtually any pro-Kremlin blogger – Musk has called for recognition that Crimea belongs to Russia. He suggested additional referendums in the rest of Ukraine “annexed” by the Kremlin – only under the supervision of the United Nations. Moreover, Ukraine would remain “neutral”, that is, it could not join NATO.
Then it was even more interesting. Renowned political scientist Ian Bremmer said Musk recently spoke to Putin himself about the situation in Ukraine. Musk confirmed the talks with the Russian leader, but assured that it was 18 months ago, so well before the war.
However, it did not end with the “peace plan”. From the start of the war, Muska’s Starlink satellites provided Ukraine with Internet access. At that time, Musk presented it as a gesture of his will, although it was later revealed that the governments of the United States and Poland were contributing to the project. Now, however, the Musk-controlled company SpaceX says it can no longer maintain Starlinks for Ukraine. Reports have surfaced Musk wants the full funding to come from the Pentagon – namely $120 million. by the end of the year and close to $400 million. for the next 12 months. Incidentally, Musk is verbally arguing on Twitter with the outgoing Ukrainian Ambassador to Berlin. A few days later, however, Musk suggested on Twitter that he wanted “support the Ukrainian government for free”. What does he mean by the end? We do not know.

It should be noted that Starlink is a key issue for Kyiv. Satellites keep military and civilians in touch, even as Russian troops destroy “traditional” infrastructure.
Musk’s ‘diplomatic’ offensive continues on other fronts. In an interview with the Financial Times, he said Beijing should control Taiwan through a “special administrative zone”. This can be seen as Musk’s blow to the Biden administration, as the US president supports Taiwan and makes it clear that China is a challenge to the world order.

Musk more powerful than any other billionaire
We can say that nothing new is that the billionaire wants to appear in politics. However, Musk’s position is unique. He is the richest man in the world and a social media star by the way (he has over 100 million Twitter followers). He is also a potential social media mogul as he could take over Twitter. We hear him all over the world, his words carry weight, even if many of his projects are difficult to take seriously. However, when he talks about “peace plans”, he cannot be ignored.
Musk’s actions are highly questionable. It is driven by emotions and self-interest, and certainly not by the public good – Agnieszka Legucka, an expert at the Polish Institute of International Affairs, told Business Insider. However, he is quick to add that business can be more important than emotions.
– Ending the war in Ukraine would certainly be good for his business. Hence this dubious “peace” proposal – adds Legucka.
Musk’s words about Taiwan have surely paid off. Reports soon emerged that two Tesla models (from automobile company Muska) were subject to tax exemptions in China.
Does the billionaire hope that the promotion of a “peace plan” can also bring him tangible benefits? Or is he dreaming of a political career? It is not known, but according to the expert, this is also part of the problem. – Elon Musk’s attitude is very opaque. The only thing that can affect it is probably only social pressure. Although, given its assets, it is still not certain – says Legucka.
The PISM expert also adds that the reaction to Musk’s behavior could be a precedent. If he succeeds in “setting up” the governments of Western countries, other billionaires could try to follow this path.

– It’s getting really dangerous. The EU is already trying to introduce some regulations regarding big business, but in the case of such powerful people as Musk it is significantly more difficult – believes the PISM analyst.
– As Western societies, we need to establish standards of conduct in such cases. Otherwise, well, our fate is miserable – he adds.
So far, Musk’s “peace plan” for Ukraine has not been warmly welcomed by the international community and even by those who follow Musk on Twitter. He submits his proposal to the vote. 2.7 million people took part, or almost 60%. voted “no”.
