The winner of the contest for pole position, Carlos Sainz Jr., was extremely unlucky. from Ferrari. On the first lap, Briton George Russell in a Mercedes crashed into the back of his car. The Spaniard’s car was damaged, a safety car appeared on the track and Sainz returned to his pit. Russell was found guilty of causing the collision, but the situation did not change, Sainz ended his run.

The Spanish driver slept a little at the start, Verstappen passed him and started to quickly move away from his rivals. Four-time German world champion Sebastian Vettel of Aston Martin showed well and moved up five positions at the start.
After four laps, Verstappen was in the lead, Hamilton was second, followed by Canadian Lance Stroll of Aston Martin and Russell of Mercedes. The world champion since the start of the race complained of a strong wind, which was quite dangerous. “Gusts of wind are treacherous,” Verstappen has reported on the radio several times. Despite this, he was driving very fast, after 10 laps he was more than five seconds ahead of Hamilton.
When the Briton decided to change tires on lap 13, he returned to the track in seventh place. A moment later, Verstappen entered the serve and finished second on the track. For now, his teammate, Mexican Sergio Perez, has taken the lead.
On lap 18, the safety car entered the track again. Fin Valtteri Bottas of Alfa Romeo fell on the side of the road, damaged the car which the technical services had to put to sleep. Most of the pilots took the opportunity to change their tires practically without losing their position.
Returning to real racing, however, took very little time. The safety car returned to the track less than a minute after Alpine’s Spaniard Fernando Alonso hit the back of Stroll’s car. There were fragments of damaged cars on the track, the Spaniard went to the service, where the front wing of his vehicle had been replaced, but the Stroll completed the journey.
Later there were no more serious crashes, although the Red Bull team grew nervous when Verstappen’s pit stop on lap 36 lasted over 11 seconds. the track in sixth and began to pursue Hamilton. At each lap he made up for his defeat, on the 50th he caught up with his rival, took the lead and did not bring him back to the finish line.
With the win and Verstappen fourth, Perez Red Bull secured a constructors’ championship victory for the first time since 2013.
