The current exhibition presents 302 photos: 48 individual photos, 11 photo reports, five documentary projects, eight individual photos and three photo reports in the Young Poland category. These works went to the final of the competition, chaired by the American photojournalist, six-time winner of the World Press Photo – Ami Vitale.

The title of Photo of the Year was awarded to a photograph by Wojciech Grzędziński (for The Washington Post) showing Irina Maniukina playing the piano in her house which had just been bombed by the Russians. “We are literally speechless and that is the power of photography,” Ami Vitale, president of the jury, said of the photo.

The exhibition also features numerous photos of the Polish-Belarusian border, the emigration of refugees from Ukraine, women from violent families and the riots in Lubin after the death of a young boy in police custody. During the exhibition, there are also reports and a series of more optimistic photos, such as a family with quintuplets.

The national Grand Press Photo competition for reporters’ photography has been organized since 2005. It is a competition for professional photojournalists working in newsrooms or photo agencies in the press and on the Internet, as well as freelancers . Traditionally, the jury is chaired by a world-class photojournalist, winner of the World Press Photo. This year it was Ami Vitale. Besides her, the jury consisted of: Antonio Bat, Anna Bedyńska, Weronika Mirowska and Andrzej Zygmuntowicz.
