“Stoch, Kubacki and Żyła can still succeed”

The President of the Polish Ski Association during his visit to Kielce opened the K4 mini ski jump. The facility, which was built at Primary School No. 9, was implemented under last year’s civic budget. Małysz stressed that the construction of such ski jumps for children is an important part of the popularization of skiing.

“This is the first step, this is where you have to start. The smallest children begin to jump on such jumps. Later there are also bigger jumps, twenty or thirty meters high, but there will be time for that. Then there are sports championship schools for children who are serious about skiing. We know that these big jumps are made in the mountains. But it is very important to build such small facilities throughout the country. Perhaps this is how our future champions will be born,” the former excellent ski jumper told PAP, who also spoke about the Ski Jumping World Cup which is about to begin.

Małysz hopes the Polish jumpers will continue their good winter streak after a successful summer season. “The guys are happy, you can see a smile on their faces. You can see such freshness has returned and that’s probably the most important thing. The day before yesterday, I had the opportunity to speak with the coach of the national team (Austrian Thomas Thurnbichler – PAP). He said he was satisfied and the jumpers are ready for the season. We are also full of optimism that everything will be fine,” the PZN chairman noted.

The choice of a new coach for the national team has been accompanied by a lot of controversy. Małysz, however, pointed out that the Austrian quickly made contact with his proteges. “He’s their peer, so it’s strange they didn’t get along. You can see the things Thomas is starting to do suit the boys. The players have gone back to basics a bit, but it’s necessary “said the quadruple Olympic medalist, who believes that the most experienced players (Dawid Kubacki, Kamil Stoch, Piotr Żyła) can still succeed.

– This age limit has changed today. We have different formations and preparations. All this means that older players can practice this sporting discipline for much longer. In the past, 32 or 33 years was such a limit, but the exploitation of the organization was much greater. Currently, everything is about specialization, ie what the player must do for a given discipline. That’s why our best jumpers can still succeed – stressed Małysz, who also hopes that the youngest will join Stoch, Kubacki or Żyła.

– Successors appear and it is already visible. Tomek Pilch, Paweł Wąsek, Kacper Juroszek – these are the players who are already starting to work in the World Cup. Hopefully this will be the case in winter too – said the president of PZN, who also spoke about his expectations for Polish jumpers in the coming season.

– Young players must fight for the World Cup and score points, while older players must return to their best years. I know this is real – assured Małysz.

The inauguration of the 2022-23 season World Cup will take place on November 5 and 6 in Wisła at the Adam Małysz ski jump
