The brown bear is Poland’s largest land predator. It can measure up to 2.5 meters in length and its body weight often exceeds 300 kg. Despite its large size, the bear can run at speeds of up to 65 km/h over short distances. He can also swim and climb high in the mountains.
Foresters in the Baligród forest district (Podkarpackie province) found the moment when a bear was climbing a tree. The predator did it effortlessly. The recording was posted on social media. Users are surprised.
Best regards to those who are considering escaping from the bear to the tree – ironically, state forest employees.
In late summer, bears mainly eat raspberries and blueberries (blueberries). In winter, they go to sleep (hibernate) in a den they have prepared, called a den.
Bears, even those foraging for food after inattentive tourists, usually avoid human presence, but sometimes an unexpected encounter does occur. To ensure that it is safe and remains a pleasant memory of a mountain outing, and above all, that it does not endanger your health, it is important to remember a few basic rules.
How should you behave when you encounter a bear?
- You need to walk away quietly and calmly – DON’T RUN, LET THE BEAR DON’T TREAT YOU LIKE HE CONQUERS! Also, don’t climb the tree, the bear does it much better.
- If we come across young bears, the female can be very dangerous to protect them.
- It is forbidden to feed the bears, or to leave leftover food, packaging that may interest them, because bears are particularly dangerous when feeding.
- You must not approach the bear, for example to take a picture or film it. A flash of flash or intense illumination from a flashlight can irritate it.
- If you come face to face with a bear, carefully unfasten the waist belt of the backpack so that you can throw it away if necessary – maybe he will be interested in it. DON’T MAKE HAPPY MOVEMENTS, control his behavior (don’t look him in the eye).
- If a bear is staring at you and its ears are back, DON’T EVEN MOVE! Back up slowly. If you are with children, pay attention to their behavior.
- However, if the bear is not paying attention to you, lie down gently on the ground, bend your leg, cover your neck and face with your hands – in most cases the bear will leave you alone – at worst it should scratch as much as possible.
