More than 7 million mObywatel users will be able to report environmental irregularities, such as littering, through the app, said Jacek Ozdoba, deputy climate and environment minister.
More than a year ago, a special interactive form “Report an intervention” was made available on the website of the General Inspectorate for Environmental Protection, through which you can notify, for example, the abandonment of waste or deposit of hazardous waste.
During Thursday’s press conference, Ozdoba informed that to date, 2,659 applications have been submitted to the CIEP through the form. More than 1,000 have been confirmed, another 1,000 cases are pending and around 600 are unconfirmed.
The deputy climate minister announced that users of the mObywat application will now be able to report irregularities. “More than 7 million users will be able to use the mObywat application to report irregularities in the environment,” he announced. He felt that this would contribute to increased detection. He pointed out that this is a new step in the fight against environmental criminals, alongside the amendment to the Penal Code and the Code of Minor Offenses, which came into force on September 1 this year.
Deputy Chief Inspector of Environmental Protection Krzysztof Gołębiewski pointed out that the form of the mObywat application is an addition to the form that has been working for more than a year on the CIEP website. He explained that to use it, you need to download the mObywat app update. After its installation, the application will display a module that will allow you to complete and submit the application.
“Although we report these interventions via the mObywat application, which implies the need to log in via a trusted profile, we have the possibility of remaining anonymous because a special tag has been introduced, i.e. ‘before sending the report, we can indicate that our data remains only for the attention of the authority. we will emphasize, then we remain anonymous “- said Gołębiewski.
When asked if the General Inspectorate for Environmental Protection had drawn any conclusions after the leak of data from people reporting poisoning in the Odra in August, Ozdoba assured that the conclusions had been drawn and that ‘they wouldn’t repeat themselves. “A procedure has been launched. This information published in the media does not quite reflect what happened. Out of weariness, one of the employees sent information to two or three people. It was incidental and on a scale Nothing happened to these data did not happen “- assured the Deputy Minister of Climate.
The media reports that one of the people who used the CIEP form received an e-mail with the internal correspondence of the Inspectorate with the reports of other people attached, as well as their personal data.
The law amending certain laws to combat environmental crime, in force since September 1, provides, among other things, for an increase in the penalty for contamination of water, air or the surface of the earth by a substance or ionizing radiation. Higher penalties also apply, among other things, for the illegal storage, disposal, treatment, recovery, neutralization and transport of waste which may endanger human life or health or lead to a reduction in quality of water, air, land surfaces or the destruction of the plant or animal world.
In addition, the penalty for importing or transporting hazardous waste abroad without the required notification or permit or against its conditions has been increased.
