Prehabilitation is a modern preparation of the patient for virtually any therapy. It includes 4 pillars. These are nutritional preparation, the implementation of physical activity, the abandonment of addictions and the psychological support of the patient. Data shows that a prepared patient has a lower risk of complications, stays in hospital for a shorter time and therefore recovers faster.
No matter what type of treatment awaits the patient, be it surgery, surgery or perhaps cancer treatment, a prepared body will tolerate it much better. Building up reserves in your body is very important for the success of the therapy.

– Doctor Przemysław Zarzeczny, who is a surgeon and knows very well how the process of treating malnourished patients is carried out. After establishing contact with Professor Banasiewicz, the idea of creating a prehabilitation clinic was born. We had a series of meetings because none of us really knew what prehabilitation was. It is associated with rehabilitation, and it is a holistic approach to the patient, that is, a dietician, treatment by a psychologist, and only then can you see how the patient is prepared, what are the effects of the treatment and what is his daily life and return to working life activity looks like after – says Anna Płotnicka- Mieloch, director of the provincial specialized hospital in Legnica.
Prehabilitation has been a standard that has been used around the world for many years. In Poland, since 2020, it is promoted and disseminated by prof. dr hab. Tomasz Banasiewicz, an exceptional surgeon, co-author of the concept of creating the clinic, supported by the educational activities of Olimp Laboratories. His lecture could be heard by those gathered before the opening ceremony of the Legnica hospital clinic.
All patients in need of assistance will be able to use the clinic. Malnourished, qualified for oncological treatment, who, to withstand the treatment well, must strengthen their body. The admission requirement is a referral to a surgical clinic.
Legnica starost Adam Babuśka, who manages nursing homes in the district, was keenly interested in the newly created facility. The idea of cooperation between the hospital and the county office in this matter was born on the trunk.
– I am impressed and very happy that this clinic, the first in Lower Silesia, is established here, because already at this moment, together with Professor Tomasz Banasiewicz and Director Anna Płotnicka-Mieloch, we have agreed on a joint action. We all see a wide field of cooperation, and we want our proteges, who must undergo planned treatments and come back healthy – says Adam Babuśka, the starost of Legnica.
Professor Tomasz Banasiewicz liked the idea of cooperation between the hospital and the county office and the project that was born upon opening will be a pilot program supervised by the professor.
