Football legend – Diego Maradona, disappears from the FIFA series. The famous Argentina card can be obtained in FIFA Ultimate Team mode. Due to a legal dispute, the 1986 World Champion will no longer be available on virtual courts.
Diego Maradona died on November 25, 2020 at the age of 60. The cause of death was a heart attack. “Divine Diego” is considered one of the greatest players in the history of sport, he was voted the best player of the 20th century with 53% of the votes in a poll on the official FIFA website.
For most of his life, Maradona won big trophies both with the Argentina national team and with some of the clubs he played for. With the Argentina national team he became world champion in 1986, vice-world champion in 1990 and world youth champion in 1979. He won the most important trophies at club level playing for SSC Napoli, with whom he won the UEFA Cup and the only two Italian league titles in the team’s history.
Until then, Maradona’s virtual character was available in FIFA Ultimate Team, Ultimate Draft, and Soccer Aid World XI. The card had “iconic” status, meaning it belonged to a group of legendary footballers who had already finished their careers, but who in the past delighted fans around the world.
Due to a dispute over the image, Electronic Arts has announced the indefinite suspension of the presence of the famous footballer in its production.
“Like the fans, we are equally disappointed and hope to be able to bring one of football’s greatest icons back into the game in the future,” the statement read.
According to Argentinian media, the Canadian studio bought a license for Maradona’s brand from his former agent, Stefano Ceci. The problem is that recently the court ruled that there was no right. To avoid trouble, EA has decided to temporarily remove the legendary footballer from the game series.
