Tychy. 18th Silesian Guitar Autumn, one of the oldest and best guitar festivals in the world

The 18th Silesian Autumn of the Guitar has begun. On the program, concerts by guitar masters, conferences, but also a competition for which 25 young guitarists from different parts of the world have been qualified. Auditions will take place from October 25 to 27, 2022, from 10-17 at the music school in Tychy. FREE ENTRY.

The Silesian Autumn of the Guitar is a big international event [w ramach której odbywa się konkurs gitarowy-red.]. Due to the richness of the program and the artistic level, it is one of the best and biggest guitar festivals in the world. – says Marek Nosal, artistic director of Silesian Guitar Autumn.

The Silesian Guitar Autumn has been held in Tychy since 1986 every two years (the pandemic this time extended to four years). It is not only a very prestigious guitar competition, but also many unforgettable master concerts given by the biggest guitar stars in the world, as well as premieres of works written especially for this festival, as well as conferences and master classes.

One of the Silesian guitar’s fall trends are stylistic fusions. Music bordering on different styles will appear, e.g. at the final concert on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the Mediateka in Tychy. Enrike Solinis (who will play baroque guitar) and Euskal Barrokensemble (an ensemble that performs contemporary music on historical instruments, such as Manuel de Falla’s Spanish compositions) says Marek Nosal

Just the biggest star of the festival is Yamandu Costa. According to the artistic director of the festival, he is a musician who is also difficult to classify in any genre. In Tychy (29.10 to 18.30 in Tychy Mediateka) he will play the seven-string Brazilian guitar.- It will be South American music, partly improvised. The program of this concert will be created in front of the public – announces Marek Nosal.

The meeting of two worlds: flamenco and classical music will also be performed by the Duo Deloro (October 28, 6:30 p.m. at the media library).

Festival audiences will also witness premiere of the new album by Jakub Kościuszko and the Radom Chamber Orchestra (October 27, 6:30 p.m. at the Tychy media library).

25 young guitarists from different parts of the world take part in the competition, the second stage of which begins on October 25.

My students followed their biographies and noticed that almost all of them were winners of other competitions. Someone counted that in total they had over 100 top prizes on their accounts. So it will be a contest of winners – declared Marcin Dylla, president of the jury and winner of this competition in 1996.

The auditions for the second stage will take place from 25 to 27.10. at 10-17 at the music school in Tychy. The first to introduce herself will be Oliwia Bujnowicz, 20, the first Tyshan woman in the history of this competition. FREE ENTRANCE. The jury will select the 6 best for the third stage.

The final phase of the competition is scheduled for Sunday, October 30 at 12 at the Tychy media library. Then six finalists will present themselves. The winners’ concert will begin the same day at 6:30 p.m.
