He pointed out that from the physical point of view, hitting the goal from 11 meters with the right force is not a problem for anyone.
– However, we must not forget to think of the consequences, which generate stress reactions, tension, indecision and disorders of the cognitive process. The goalkeeper is less mentally charged. If he defends – he will be great, if not – no one will blame him – stressed the professor of the Academy of Physical Education in Katowice.

He noted that the stress of the executor also depends on the value of the penalty for the final result of the match.
– If it determines the outcome, then even a thought causing uncertainty, indecision affects decision-making processes, muscle tension, which in turn can be transferred to the technical aspect of the shot – he assessed.
In his opinion, it is better for a penalty taker to make a decision and stick to it in a consistent, not intriguing way.
– When he begins to think about how to strike and he does not have an elaborate model of automatism, or he has one, but changes it, then the flow of thoughts can do in so that the shot is not prepared, neither technically nor in terms of strength – he explained.
As he noted, whether the same or another player should apply the next penalty after a missed penalty is highly individual.
– First of all, you have to talk to the shooter, monitor his mental state. Such an unused penalty can also affect feelings of self-efficacy during the game. If the player feels strong enough to approach the next +11+ and use it – it will be added value for his psyche, self-confidence. Until he does, he will feel the burden,” he said.
According to Kaczmarski, the change of executor – if it is not accepted by the previous one – can reinforce the feeling of weakness of the latter. The successor immediately feels the increased pressure on him.
“There are penalty takers, but of course nobody is 100 per cent,” he noted.
Two penalty kicks have yet to be used in the World Cup in Qatar. A bungled by Robert Lewandowski in Poland’s game against Mexico, but white and red team coach Czesław Michniewicz announced the captain was still the main penalty taker.
In this year’s World Cup, some goals were also disallowed after VAR analysis.
– This can have a mobilizing effect on the shooting team, the players will get “angry”, their level of excitement and mobilization will increase, but also such a situation can clip the wings of the team. Players will feel injustice, some may react with aggression, others will make mistakes focused on a disallowed goal, they will feel hurt. A lot depends on communication within the team, on the presence of leaders who can calm the situation, give confidence to colleagues – Kaczmarski believed.
According to him, the players of the team losing an unrecognized goal can, in turn, be extra vigilant and mobilize, because they will have the feeling that in the next situation there may already be a correct goal.
“Some will feel relieved, but it won’t affect their game, and for others, that relief will lead to a higher level of stress because the opponent was close to scoring,” he added.
He pointed out that it’s common to say “the band did something,” and in the meantime…
– We must take into account that there are 11 units, and each of them reacts differently. One competitor will think in such a situation “wow, we are lucky today”, and the other will be tense – the sports psychologist emphasized.
Polish footballers, after a goalless draw with Mexico, will play Saturday against Saudi Arabia in their second group game of the World Cup. The Saudis made a nice surprise by beating Argentina 2-1.
“It could have greatly boosted their self-esteem, but it can also cause some contempt for another rival. It must be remembered that the Saudis played Argentina without pressure. No one would demand any results from them. In such a situation, it’s easier to play, and on Saturday it will be different. There will be pressure, because they are closer to group promotion – said Kaczmarski.
In his opinion, the best approach – for the two rivals on Saturday – will be the option often used by volleyball players.
“They always say after the game, regardless of the result, that now they’re focused on the next game, the previous one doesn’t matter, they haven’t achieved anything yet. That’s a good road to Saudi Arabia and Poland. It doesn’t matter what is behind us, we will do everything we can,” he concluded.
