Qatar outraged by Denmark jerseys for 2022 World Cup

Grant the right to host the World Cup Qatar still evokes a lot controversial. Starting with the corruption scandal, going through the date of the championships, and ending with the issue of human rights violations. The media have repeatedly reported on a possible boycott of the tournament. As expected, none of the federations decided to take such a step. But the Danes, although sending their representation, decided to oppose otherwise.

There is the Qatar Supreme Committee’s response to the Danish protest

It all started with the refusal of the Danish Football Federation (DBU) to distribute tickets to its supporters representation for the championship. “Ekstra Bladet” writes that only two thousand people bought tickets for Danes’ matches, while the pool for each country is 3-5 thousand. “Danish fans are turning away from Qatar. Not only because it’s outrageously expensive, but also because the World Cup finals are highly criticized in a country where more than 6,500 migrant workers have died building the buildings erected for the tournament,” he added. they write journalists

“We are happy to give advice to Danes for their stay, but we do not organize fan zones or other activities in Qatar because we do not want to support this country. We want to get away from Qatar because it is not not a place we can connect with,” says union director Jakob Jensen. The Danish federation only sends essential people to Qatar. He also refuses to take part in any promotional campaign.

However, it won’t end with the fans. Football kit manufacturer Hummel released a statement on Wednesday. It turned out that the Danish T-shirts with almost invisible sponsor logos presented on September 19 are a form of producer protest against the host of the next World Cup – Qatar. “With the new Danish national team shirts, we wanted to send two messages. This is not only a tribute to the greatest success of the Danish national team, but also a protest against Qatar and its behavior in terms of human rights,” the producer wrote. on Instagram, which also wanted to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Danish national team’s greatest success, the 1992 European Championship.

The actions from the Danish side, as reported by Sky Sports, caused such a reaction that the Qatari Supreme Committee (SC) decided to issue a statement about it, responding to the protest. “Since winning the right to host the FIFA World Cup, SC has worked diligently with the Qatari government to ensure the tournament delivers a lasting social legacy,” the statement read.

“For this reason, we dispute Hummel’s claim that this tournament claimed the lives of thousands of people. Moreover, we wholeheartedly reject the trivialization of our genuine commitment to protecting the health and safety of the 30,000 workers who built stadiums for the FIFA World Cup and other tournament projects,” retort the members of the Supreme Committee.

“Qatar is committed to this journey”

The organizers ensure in their announcement that the same commitment applies to the 150,000 employees of the various departments of the tournament and to the 40,000 employees of the hotel sector.

“It should always be the responsibility of countries to do more to protect the rights of people around the world, including in Denmark. The work of CS is recognized by many in the international human rights community as a model that has accelerated progress and improved lives Qatar’s reforms are recognized by the ILO [Międzynarodowa Organizacja Pracy] and ITUC [Międzynarodowa Konfederacja Związków Zawodowych] as exemplary in the region. As with any country, progress on these issues is a journey with no finish line, and Qatar is on that journey.”

“We urge the DBU to accurately deliver results their extensive communication and work with SC, and to ensure that this is well communicated to their Hummel partners,” the Qatar Supreme Committee concluded.
