September 29 – what unusual holidays?
September 29 falls world heart day. Each year, more than 17 million people die of heart disease. To combat this, even symbolically, the World Heart Federation created World Heart Day, which aims to spread knowledge about heart disease and ways to live a healthy life to save this precious organ. With us, in turn, you can read, among other things, that night work increases the risk problems with the heart and the ideal exercise for those who suffer from heart disease is, among other things… climbing stairs!
Except that:
- Every year, on September 29, we can also celebrate coffee day. Celebrated in the United States and Canada, it aims not only to promote the consumption of this popular drink, but also to support producers and farmers on coffee plantations around the world. So if you want a cup of coffee, try to have one whose origin is documented, and try to support local producers, not necessarily big worries.
- In addition, September 29 falls Confucius Day. On this day, we honor the famous philosopher and teacher whose teachings had a huge impact on the fate of the world, even if we are not fully aware of it. Confucius (Italian: Kǒng Qi) was born in 551 BC. AD in the Chinese village of Qufu, in present-day Shandong province. He was only 3 years old when his father died, plunging the family into misery. Despite this, Confucius became an excellent student and later a teacher. He did not envision establishing the first private school in China, but it came naturally when the students around this young man, only 22 years old, universally called him their master and guide. Over the years, his philosophy gained recognition in the Middle Kingdom, and after his death, Confucianism became the official philosophy followed by subsequent Chinese governments.
- September 29 is also silent film day. It’s a rare opportunity to pay homage to the silent films that moved, entertained and thrilled audiences around the world during the early years of cinema. Silent film technology was developed as early as 1860 and gained popularity around 1880 when single reel films became widely available. Until the 1920s, films were mostly silent, after which they were replaced by the sound images we know today. Despite this, from ancient times we can still admire the silent masterpieces of cinematography by such masters as, for example, Charlie ChaplinBuster Keaton and Harold Lloyd.
- It also happens on the same day International Happy Goose Day, also known as Archangel Michael Day (Michaelmas Day). Originally, this day was intended to honor the Archangel Michael. Over the years, however, he began to be associated more with… geese. And all because it was a rent period in medieval England. It was common for tenants to pay landlords in geese. Nowadays, when we usually only pay with money, roast goose lovers use history on this day as an excuse to prepare their favorite dish.
