According to Erdogan, the issue of support for African countries affected by the food crisis was discussed during a meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. The Turkish president also announced that during the G20 summit in Bali on November 13-14, discussions on aid to Africa will take place.
Agreement on cereals. Turkey’s successful persuasions
On November 2, President Erdogan announced, citing assurances from Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, that the grain initiative would resume the same day. The Ministry of Defense in Moscow, quoted by Russian media, also said that Russia will return to the grain initiative allowing the transport of Ukrainian products.
Agreements on the unblocking of grain exports from Ukrainian ports via the Black Sea and the Turkish Strait were signed on July 22 in Istanbul by representatives of Ukraine, Russia, Turkey and the UN. The agreement was concluded for 120 days (i.e. until November 19) with the possibility of extension. The export blockade is the result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24.
