The road bridge built after the annexation of Crimea was opened in 2018 (a year later the railway bridge was launched). It is 18 kilometers long. Its construction has been described as Kremlin propaganda success. In the context of the war in Ukraine, it plays an important role for Russia in supplying the army.

According to a Ukrainian official, answers to questions about the causes of the explosion on the bridge must be sought in Russia, and the circumstances “indicate a Russian trace”. As he assessed, the incident shows “the escalation of the conflict between Russia’s military and power structures and its exit from the control of the Kremlin”.

The American newspaper The Washington Post unofficially reported on Saturday that Ukrainian special services were behind the attack on the Crimean bridge. This information was reported to the newspaper by a representative of the Ukrainian government.

The fact that the explosion that occurred on the bridge was a special operation of the Security Service of Ukraine was reported, among others, by Agency Interfax Ukraine, but also the Ukrainian portal Pravda. The SBU does not comment on this information.

They blame the Ukrainian side for the attack on the bridge, among other Crimean occupation authorities.
