Pelé’s health is improving, but there is still no date for him to be discharged from hospital

Pele’s condition is gradually improving, the hospital said on Monday. Albert Einstein in Sao Paulo, where the legendary Brazilian footballer is hospitalized. However, no date has yet been given for the release of 82-year-old Pelé.

Pele is currently being treated in a “normal ward” and does not need to be placed in an intensive care unit, according to an official medical report. The former soccer star, who was admitted to hospital on November 29 with a respiratory infection, has been battling bowel cancer for almost two years.

“The patient continues to show clinical improvement, particularly respiratory infections. He remains in an ordinary room, is conscious and has stable vital signs” – it is written in the press release.

In recent days, there have been conflicting reports about his condition. On Saturday, the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper reported that the “king of football” was receiving palliative care after chemotherapy for colon cancer stopped working. Pelé himself responded to this by posting on social media: “I’m strong, hopeful and normally on treatment.”

The former football star underwent surgery for a colon tumor in early September last year. Along with digestive issues, the football legend has been suffering from hip issues for years. He regularly comes to the hospital for examinations and chemotherapy sessions.

Pelé is the only three-time football world champion. He won with Brazil in 1958, 1962 and 1970.

The Brazilian also watched this year’s World Cup.
