In the last issue of “Kultura na weekend” of this year, we summarize 12 months in series.
The latest edition of this year’s “Kultura na week-end” is also – to stay true to pop culture terminology – a crossover with “Serial Podcast”. We talk to Bartek Chaciński and Aneta Kyzioł about the series that marked us the most, and those that turned out to be failures, and if it was really a rather average year in terms of new titles: this year, silver didn’t work even in the biggest productions, like in “The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power” – a gigantic investment in production and promotion, and this series just doesn’t work. It’s all dramatic. And the second such case is “Kind of the Dragon”.
But where the creators of fantastic series have failed, the authors of detective and spy novels have found their place perfectly: thanks to “Lame Horses”, “Reacher” or the sequel to “Bosch”, it turned out that even in such a genre-heavy formula, you can still tell a fascinating and surprising story.
Thanks to “Wielka Woda” and “Minute of Silence”, it was also a good year for national productions: with small steps, Polish series are reaching the highest level, at a time when the world average has recently fallen. More and more average productions are emerging, but they are also fewer and fewer for economic reasons and the paralysis that has affected all streaming services. We’re getting better and the world is making more and more mediocre shows.
We also discuss the return of series classics – only this year have we had access to series such as “MASH”, “Alf” or “The Simpsons” via streaming, and we briefly wonder what the future holds for us. The interview is conducted by Jakub Demiańczuk.
