Elbląg the best in the XPC World Cup. Daria Lewandowska: Pressing the bar is not an individual sport

Yesterday (27 November) the XPC World Cup took place in Siedlce. Daria Lewandowska, 23, from Elbląg, won first place in the 75 kg weight category and first place in the open junior category. – It’s an incredible experience to be able to compete with such an elite. Many players from different countries: Italy, Germany, Hungary, Armenia. My plan was realized beyond the program – she said in an interview for info.elblag.pl.

Is the XPC World Cup a special competition for you?

The XPC World Cup was a pretty special start for me as it ended my racing season. Saturday’s trip to Siedlce went so fast that I don’t think there was even time to stress. I haven’t thought too much about the start yet, I focused on preparing my body for another intense effort, because a week ago I also participated in the Polish Cup in Stężyca.

So no stress at all?

I was especially afraid of the weight. My starting weight this season was supposed to be between 70 and 71 kg. As usual, stepping on the scale on Sunday morning, she showed 68.7 kg. Here, the chaos in my head invaded me a little, because I said to myself “how do you want to break records with such a small weight…” (laughs) Fortunately, I still had 4 hours for my departure, so I managed to eat and saturate my body.

How was your preparation before departure?

An hour before the start I started to warm up and that was the decisive moment for my first approach, which strategy to choose, whether it’s safe 90 kg or we go all the way and we start with 95 kg. , I nodded to the second option.

You started with 95 kg…

The second approaches 100 kg and there I gently feel the weight on my hands. Third attempt 102.5 kg. On the last approach, I was overwhelmed with stress and panic, but in my mind as I walked towards the platform, I thought to myself “Good Lewandowska, you squeeze your butt, you hold your tight back, you break the bar and the record is yours”.

And we did. There was definitely joy.

It was a lot of emotions, tears of happiness and pride not only for me, but for my whole team. The dumbbell press is not an individual sport. Here, behind each of my successes, there is a team of people who help and support me.

Who is part of this staff?

For some this may be a trivial dumbbell pass, but my training partner/friend Marcin Garbas does it perfectly. He does not pull it too high, because then the position of the shoulder blades can change, and he does not stretch the bar too much, because it can fall on his stomach. He saves all my tense muscles, gets me to every competition in one piece. It’s my mental head and my composure in every competition. Another person Piotr Pawyza, a trainer who hits the point with every kilogram and every repetition. Arek Jasinski, a very colorful character, also contributed. A week ago, after the competition, he invited us to his modest forge to show some mistakes I make when benching. I took his words and advice to heart. As I mentioned before, all of my successes are created by people.

How would you sum up the XPC World Cup?

It was an incredible experience for me to be able to compete with such an elite. There were many players of different nationalities. My plan was executed overtime. What I am extremely satisfied with. My hard work has rewarded me with success. This gave me: 1st place in my weight category, 1st place in the Open Junior category, 5th place in the Open Women category. Now rest, lots of regeneration and next year we’ll see you on the pier

Congratulations on your successes and we keep our fingers crossed for the next ones.
