WhatsApp is a worldwide popular free instant messenger designed primarily for mobile devices. The app mostly advertises itself with taglines that show great respect for users’ privacy, e.g. through end-to-end encryption. Its success is also due to the fact that it was one of the first programs allowing extremely simple conversations thanks to the use the Internet in the phone.
In the service Descent detector, where users report problems with the operation of applications and services on the Internet, there is a significant increase in reports of failures of WhatsApp applications. According to the graph on the website, the problem started happening around 9am.
In the comments on the site, we can find information that the problem affects almost the whole world. Users from different countries are talking about it, complaining about problems with

- Connection to the server
- and with the application itself.
When will WhatsApp return to full functionality? We do not know it. Questioned by the Agency Reuters a spokesperson for Meta, owners of WhatsApp, comments:
We know some people are having trouble sending messages, and we’re working to restore full functionality to WhatsApp as soon as possible.
What is the cause of the problem? the service was recently disabled on some older phones due to outdated security. This may have accidentally caused a problem connecting to servers for users on newer devices.
