Prize for the book “Gdynia promised. City, modernism, modernization 1920-1939”, an excellent story about the city, which raises the question of modernization. For a convincing deconstruction of the myth of the “city of the sea and dreams”.
Gregory Friday (born in 1980) – graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology. He writes, lectures, speaks and shows. He curated many exhibitions, worked as editor of the monthly “Architektura-Murator”, wrote columns for “Gazeta Stołeczna” and articles on architecture, design and the city.
His books “Sanator. Career of Stefan Starzyński” (2016) and “The best city in the world. Warsaw under reconstruction 1944-1949” (2020) were awarded the Warsaw Capital Literary Prize Warsaw, “The best city in the world” was in the final of the Nike Prize. The latest is “Gdynia promised. City, modernism, modernization 1920-1939” (WAB Editions). This time, the author faces the myths of the Polish interwar period, finding a fascinating hero in another city.
