Traditionally, the competition was held at the Coney Island amusement park in New York, but this time, due to the coronavirus pandemic, without public participation. The ten competitors – five men and five women – were separated by plastic windows. The competition was broadcast on television.
Among the men, Joey Chestnut ate the most hot dogs in 10 minutes – 75, improving on his best result from 2018, when he ate one fewer hot dog. According to the organizers of the competition, the Californian set a world record.
– I always strive for a record. I know this is what my fans want,” Chestnut said before the competition began.
