With a snowshoe in hand, skis on your feet or on a tatami… The range of sports is endless and we could have added dozens of other names. But we chose figures who fought to have their talent recognized, to find a place in a world of men, who wore the colors of their discipline very highly. They revolutionized the way they stood on the ground, giving it their all and constantly pushing their limits, even if it meant collapsing. Some faced thousands of sexist comments because their physique did not conform to a pseudo-norm, because they dreamed of being able to handle everything at once (and they are right) or simply because they were women. And because for some, their performance remains below that of men. And yet, look at the French handball players who became European champions in December 2018. Think of the French Women’s XV beating New Zealand in November 2019! More recently it was the Americans who won the World Cup, led by their incredible captain Megan Rapinoe. It’s also impossible not to salute Serena Williams (we explain why she’s so “badass”). What can we say about Laure Manaudou, who at the age of twenty already held an Olympic championship title and several world records? Also see how boxing champion Sarah Ourahmoune didn’t hang up her gloves but put down her box to convey her passion. Let’s also think of Ada Hegerberg, who is asked if she can twerk, even though she has just received a Ballon d’Or! And then we must salute the Blues who gave their all during the Women’s World Cup this summer with Amandine Henry, Eugénie Le Sommer, Wendie Renard and Sarah Bouhaddi. Discover in images sportswomen who once made us tremble or who you will hear about again, we promise you.
