This celebration will be a perfect complement to the ongoing Polish Heritage Month celebrations in the United States. Father Prelate Piotr Żendzian, longtime chaplain of the Children’s Smile Foundation and parish priest of St. Cross on Maspeth will be honored with a commemorative plaque and his own street. Celebrations in his honor will be held on Sunday.
The decision to rename part of 61st Street, between 56th Road and 56th Avenue, to Peter Zendzian Way has been approved by the New York City Council. The street in honor of the Polish priest will share a common corner with the Way of Pope John Paul II, one of the initiators of which was the prelate Fr. Piotr Żendzian. A bronze plaque with a special dedication and the image of a distinguished priest is ready. The faithful can admire it in the parish of St. Croix, in the grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes.
The Maspeth celebrations will take place on Sunday, October 23. It will begin at 12:30 p.m. Solemn Mass for Fr. Prelate Piotr Żendzian, because this day is the seventh anniversary of his death. Holy Mass will be celebrated jointly by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio and Bishop Witold Mroziewski. TO. At 2 p.m., a plaque and plaque with the honorary name of 61st Street will be unveiled. The ceremony will be attended by Councilor Robert Holden, who helped implement the Children’s Smile Foundation initiative to bestow this honorary name.
