Bull terrier in exile. Jacek Kurski won’t be disappearing from Polish politics anytime soon

Does the departure of Jacek Kurski for a post at the World Bank mean that Polish politics has finally freed itself from the former boss of TVP? It would be too easy.

He evacuated from Polish politics in his typical style. After a heap and shamelessly, not even leaving much room for the indispensable pinch of hypocrisy in such a case. Without satirical flair, it would be rather difficult to say that it is Jacek Kurski, with his degree in foreign trade from the University of Gdańsk and a rich political CV, who has the most appropriate qualifications for a director’s post at the World Bank. Therefore, after the publication of the nomination, PiS politicians and propagandists on duty washed their hands and tried not to comment on the matter, leaving Adam Glapiński, who signed Kurski’s delegation in Washington, with the pie. Thankfully, the NBP chairman has long been strong at satire, and this time around he’s risen to the occasion too.

This is one of those short stories that instantly become memes. There is no reason for particular outrage, as the position is as lucrative as it is in fact unimportant, and Kurski is unlikely to cause great damage to Poland. At most related to the image, but everyone has long been accustomed to the embarrassment of PiS. Perhaps it would even be necessary to applaud the escapade of the recent president of TVP across the Atlantic, help him to put down his luggage and say goodbye to him, because there is no doubt that our public life without Kurski can only gain from it. Finally, one of the main polluters leaves, forerunner of the nastiest practices and narratives of recent years, an infinitely cynical and demoralized person. The longer those saxes are, the better for all of us.

Expelled from Byzantium

It soon emerged that Kurski had used a trick to leave his eternal benefactor and persecutor Jarosław Kaczyński, thus closing another chapter in their tumultuous relationship.
