The Canadian team was one of the biggest positive surprises of the World Cup qualifiers. John Herdman’s players won the competition in the CONCACAF zone and returned to the World Cup after 36 years. Alphonso Davies and company are a team that could prove to be the dark horse of the tournament in Qatar.

The best and most recognizable player of the Canadian national team, valued by the Transfermarkt portal at 70 million euros. He was born in a refugee camp in Ghana. Her parents ended up there after leaving Liberia when the civil war broke out there. When Davies was five years old, he and his family immigrated to Canada. In 2015, he joined the Vancouver Whitecaps. At the beginning of 2019, he became a Bayern player, where he became one of the best left-backs in the world. The 22-year-old is officially the fastest player in Bundesliga history. In a game against Werder Bremen, he reached a speed of 36.5 km/h during one of the sprints.
During his football career, he did not achieve significant successes. He played for New Zealand fourth-tier amateur club Hibiscus Coast AFC. In 2006, he became the head coach of the New Zealand women’s national team. Five years later, he took over Canada’s National Women’s Team. With this national team, he won a gold medal at the Pan American Games (2011) and twice a bronze medal at the Olympic Games (2012, 2016). The good results with the women’s national team were appreciated by the national federation. Herdman became the head coach of Canada’s men’s national team in 2018. His biggest achievement is qualifying for the World Cup – Canada will return to the World Cup after a 36-year hiatus. The national team managed by Herdman fell from 95th to 33rd place in the FIFA rankings.
