The number of births in Poland has been gradually decreasing since 2018, but last year broke a record in this regard. 305 thousand children who, according to preliminary estimates of the Central Statistical Office, were born in our country in 2022, are 27 thousand less (almost 9%) than last year. And also the least in the post-war history of Poland.
Negative growth
The highest number of children in the country was born in the 1950s, when there were over 700,000. annually. By the end of the 1960s, this number had dropped to over half a million, and in 1983 it had again exceeded 720,000. births. Things began to seriously deteriorate at the beginning of this century, with the worst being in 2003, when just over 351,000 babies were born in Poland. children. The negative record was broken in 2021 and again in 2022.

The natural increase rate (ratio of births to deaths) was -3.8 last year. A year earlier, the situation was even worse (-4.8), but there were also more deaths, probably due to the pandemic (the previous year, the coefficient was -0.9).
