As the director of PIK, Barbara Bojaryn-Kazberuk, pointed out during the opening, Joanna Krukowska is characterized above all by honesty. And it shows in his photos. Joanna has an individual, expressive and unmistakable style. The photos mainly show women in various poses, most often in nature. Almost in every photograph the model is depicted with an attribute. Detail is important here. Sometimes it’s a stuffed bird, sometimes a fluttering scarf, and sometimes a characteristic pose. Joanna’s photographs can be disturbing, they certainly evoke emotions, they are beautiful and profound at the same time.
Crowds of people came to the opening of Joanna’s exhibition in Spodek of the Podlaski Institute of Culture. There were touching speeches, exchanges of cordiality.
– It’s an honor to be part of Asia’s concept art. I’m so grateful that the author trusted me enough to include me in his intimate story about emotions, because that’s a world we don’t want to invite everyone into. It’s the sweetest bit of all of us. Being the model of Asia is an adventure in which we pass into another dimension. Going to a session with her, I never know if this time I will be lying face down in the grass in the middle of November or running barefoot in the field. It’s the excitement, the joy of doing things “in spite of”, it’s just freedom – said Magdalena Wysocka, one of the models.
Everyone I spoke to admired the beauty of Joanna’s photos. His extraordinary ability to frame, but above all to express what scares us the most and to put it in a very beautiful frame, determines the originality of the photograph.
Joanna’s work strikes deep chords within us. It’s a story of difficulties, of emotions pushed back somewhere in the unconscious, which can be terrifying. Joanna has the courage to talk about it, to enlighten them. To tame it a bit and comfort that we don’t have to be alone with them. “For under the table that divides us, aren’t we all secretly holding hands? – Joanna quoted Bruno Schulz’s text.
