USAChristian Dalger died this Saturday 1uh July at the age of 73. The disappearance of the former striker of the French football team and AS Monaco was announced by the National Union of Professional Footballers (UNFP), the union of professional players playing in France.
“Player for Sporting Toulon, AS Monaco (French champion 1978) and the French team (6 caps), converted into coach in France and Africa, Christian Dalger left this 1uh July at the age of 73. “The UNFP extends its sincere condolences to his family and loved ones,” the union announced on Twitter on Saturday.
In a press release posted online on Sunday, the French Football Federation paid tribute to the memory of “one of the most brilliant ambassadors” of Mediterranean football. ‘Christian Dalger has left us! I feel enormous sadness! He was an overachiever in all competitions! A sweet man. Without this phenomenon we would never have become champions with AS Monaco in 1977,” Rolland Courbis said on Twitter.
A member of the Platini generation
He was one of the best French players in the 1977-1978 season with Monaco. He was selected six times for the French team and scored two goals in the blue jersey, including the third goal of the famous France-Bulgaria (3-1) in November 1977, as the Platini generation qualified for their first World Cup . the following year in Argentina.

As a player he only knew two clubs, SC Toulon (1962-1971, then 1982-1985) and AS Monaco (1971-1980), with whom he won the French championship in 1978 and the Coupe de France in 1980. During his football career he became a coach and had spells at Toulon, Grenoble, Martigues, Vitrolles, Manosque and Marignane, and coached Mali (2002-2003).
