It’s been a long time since there was such a concert in Śródmieście in Gdynia. One of the most famous DJs in the world, Armin Van Buuren, star of the one-day festival Sunset Square, brought together thousands of people at the South Pier, where he treated the public to an evening full of powerful visual and musical experiences. The Dutch musician, who even played for the King of the Netherlands, knows how to liven up any party.
Royal DJ
He began creating DJ sets as a teenager. He became famous for his hours-long club performances, and in 2003 he set a world record by playing the longest set ever. more than 12 hours.
Today Armin Van Buuren is one of the most popular DJs in the world. Trained musician from the Netherlands lawyeris so appreciated in his country that he performs with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra played on the occasion of the swearing-in of the new king of the Netherlands for an audience of 15,000 and 4 million in front of televisions. No wonder Armin Van Buuren’s Sunday concert arouses so much interest South Pier in Gdynia was huge. Thousands of people came to Kościuszko Square to have fun pace electronic. There was a party one day festival appointed Sunset Square – you could enter its premises since 15. Artists like EMDI, DJ Kris B2B Matys, Fedde Le Grand and the duo W&W played on stage just before the star of the evening entered the stage on time at 10:15 p.m.
They danced on the water, in line and behind the fence
The event space was well prepared and the experience of the organizers, namely MDT Production, was visible, responsible, among other things, behind Sunrise Festival, which has been held in Kołobrzeg for 20 years. Gdynia Pier has been divided into two areas: a concert area with a large stage, with an additional VIP area on the terrace. Gdynia Aquarium, as well as a catering area, further behind the aquarium, where you can relax and buy snacks typical of such events from food trucks: hamburgers, fries, pizza, stews and langos. Dozens of stands offering drinks and beer have been prepared. There were also special points for charging phones and leaving valuables in locked boxes. Throughout the Sunset area Square continued an unusually long row of you you. However, the large numbers were not enough: the queues were huge, but people were also jumping and dancing in them.
To the music trance the people on the boats moored nearby were having fun too, she was there too a large number of spectatorswho listened to the event behind the fence without a ticket. However, it was not easy for them: the stage was arranged in such a way that the sound did not propagate very well. Halfway to Kościuszko Square, near the fountain, there was no sound, only the dull sounds of a distant event.
Tomorrowland in Gdynia
Anyone who has ever attended an electronic concert knows the atmosphere that accompanies such events. Often it’s not about the music itself, but the atmosphere, the fun and the opportunity to dance in the open air to energetic songs. The best example is the famous Tomorrowland, one of the biggest festivals in the world, organized every year in Belgium. It’s usually concerts for people who come for strong experiences, not just in terms of music. It is very important visual side such concerts and Sunset Square did not disappoint.
Several thousand people at Armin’s concert
Visual bombardment
The stage on which the DJs played was located high up, so the artists could be seen even from afar, and after sunset they were well lit and visible despite the giant screens behind them. And the most sophisticated visualizations were displayed on the screens, changing rapidly to the beat of the music.
The most impressive in this regard was of course the Armin Van Buuren concert. Almost every issue used it lasers and pyrotechnic effects: fires that were hot under the stage, and fountains of sparks, there was also confetti, strips of paper that shot into the air, and everything was covered in thick smoke coming from the stage fumes in constant activity. The audience, which resembled that of Z, did not disappoint either Wisłoujście Festival: we could see fluorescent clothes, colorful braids, luminous glasses, Hawaiian necklaces made of artificial flowers, hats and colorful makeup. It was also good for having fun perfect weather.
– The event was a real plus – he said Maciej, performing in concerts at Tricity for years. – The DJs before Armin Van Buuren played very well, they mixed well-known songs very well, and it’s almost impossible to go wrong with something like that. Great special effects, in my opinion, they really stood out musically. The number of you you surprised me, the entire seafront was lined with them. There were positive people in the audience, I think most of them didn’t even come for Armin himself, they just came to have fun with the music. No matter who is playing, they always have a good time. For example, at Summer Sounds, many people stand like pickets in front of the stage, as if they are there as punishment when “their” artist doesn’t play. Honestly, this is probably the best one-day open-air festival I’ve seen in Tricity in a long time.

Intensive and not for everyone
Music is of course a matter of taste, so not everyone will enjoy such an event, but most people had a good time. Armin Van Buuren performed his biggest hits, including: “In and Out of Love”, “Him and Him” If “Leave a little love”but also remixes of famous songs, like “Satisfaction” Benny Bennasi, “I’m doing well” David Guetta or “Turn on the light” by the Swedish mafia. As soon as the audience heard the first sounds of famous numbers, a cry of satisfaction went through the crowd and hands with telephones rose to record their favorite songs. However, it was a nice change to see that most people, instead of recording, were having fun and dancing, enjoying the moment.
Armin Van Buuren is one of the most popular DJs in the world for a reason. He has good contact with the audience, knows how to create tension in the songs, gradually leading the crowd towards an explosion of joy which can only be expressed by jumping without inhibitions. The Dutchman’s concert ended after two hours and, at the end of the evening, Sikdope performed and closed the festival.
