Elon Musk takes to Twitter and announces: This is for the good of humanity

Elon Musk tweeted about…the future of Twitter. He directed it to advertisers, thanks to whom the service makes money, but it is de facto content for all users.

Elon Musk wrote that he wanted to personally and publicly share his motivation for taking over Twitter. He added that there was a lot of speculation about why he bought one of the biggest social networking sites in the world and what he thought of the Twitter ads themselves. He pointed out that most of this information was completely inaccurate.

“The reason I bought Twitter is because it’s important for the future of civilization to have a common digital public square where a wide range of beliefs can be discussed in a healthy, non-violent way,” wrote Musk.

Musk explains that there is now a great danger that social media will split into far-right and far-left “cells” that will only generate more hate and divide our society. It’s really hard to disagree with this statement – probably never in history has the phenomenon of polarization been as powerful as it is today.

Musk wants to fight polarization

Twitter’s new owner says fighting polarization is very important to him. As he states, “In the relentless pursuit of clicks, most mainstream media has fueled and conformed to polarized extremes because they believe that’s where the money is. But in doing so, we lose dialogue.”

And that’s why – to combat this kind of polarization – Musk bought Twitter. “I didn’t do it to make more money,” he insists. “I did this to try to help the humanity I love. And I do it humbly, recognizing that despite my best efforts, not doing so is a very real possibility.”

Of course, Musk stressed that Twitter cannot and will not become a place where anyone can say anything without consequence. The platform will respect the law and must remain user-friendly for everyone. The billionaire here made an analogy with the world of games and movies, where we can choose content and experiences according to our preferences and adapted to the appropriate age groups.

“It’s supposed to be the most respected advertising platform in the world”

Elon Musk also argues that Twitter will aspire to be the world’s most respected advertising platform that builds brands and grows individual businesses (advertisers).

He added that a well-done advertisement can delight, entertain and inform, as well as introduce a product or service that we may not have known existed and that is right for us.

“Let’s build something amazing together,” Musk said.
