Turkey’s state-run Anadolu agency reports that Mustafa Sentop, speaker of Turkey’s Grand National Assembly from the Justice and Development Party, led by Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will nominate Turkey’s president for the Nobel Peace Prize. As Sentop explained, Erdogan deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for “peace efforts between Russia and Ukraine.”
Erdogan has been trying to mediate since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In December, he announced new negotiations with the Ukrainian and Russian presidents. He also noted that his country supports “the territorial integrity of Ukraine”. “Turkey’s diplomatic efforts towards Ukraine are based on the assumption that there can be no winners in war and losers in peace,” Erdogan said on Dec. 9. “Despite the interruption of the Istanbul dialogue process between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, this platform still remains the best for long-term peace,” he added.
Erdogan’s talks with Putin and Zelensky took place on December 12. Both interviews focused on the grain corridor.
Turkey eliminated targets in Syria and Iraq, Erdogan threatened Greece
However recently Turkey has also carried out airstrikes against Kurdish militant bases in northern Syria and northern Iraq.. The attacks targeted the bases of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the Syrian Kurdish YPG militia, which Turkey says is a wing of the PKK. As a result of airstrikes, 89 targets were destroyed. The Turkish president said he had not discussed the issue with either Joe Biden or Vladimir Putin. The airstrikes were in response to an attack in Istanbul.
In turn, on December 11, a resident of Turkey was in the city of Samsun, where he met young people at the local town hall. Recep Tayyip Erdogan said there that his country had started producing short-range ballistic missiles called Typhoons, which were supposed to “terrify the Greeks”. “Threatening Greece with a missile attack by a NATO ally is unacceptable and totally reprehensible,” commented Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias.
