The NRF Retail Big Show Conference is one of the most important events for representatives of the retail world. Sessions with speakers, complemented by an exhibition offer, create a platform for exchanging information and experiences on the latest trends affecting the development directions of the retail sector around the world. This year, the event will feature over 175 sessions with over 350 speakers and over 800 exhibitors.

Participation in this prestigious event, which is undoubtedly the Big Show of NRF Retail, is not only an opportunity for us to establish new partnerships, but also an opportunity to present Żabka as one of the distribution companies most innovative in the world. Thanks to our concept, Warsaw has become the world capital of stand-alone stores, which is why I am happy that we have the opportunity to present this project to a global audience. We want to show how the modern technologies we create in cooperation with our partners make life easier and free up time for our customers.

– said Tomasz Blicharski, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Grupa Żabka, General Director of Żabka Future

Nano frog and modern technologies

The stand-alone Żabka Nano store presented during the NRF is available for registered attendees of the show from January 15 to 17 this year. Żabka Nano is a unique company in the world, which combines a physical store and a digital store. The innovative concept allows fast shopping without cashiers, queues and cash, it is precisely adapted to the nature of the place and the profile of the clientele. Stores operate in multiple formats, such as: stand-alone containerized vending machines, traditional brick-and-mortar outlets, or store-within-store. Each of them uses technology developed in close collaboration with the American technology company AiFi and uses the Microsoft Azure platform. The first Żabka Nano store was opened in June 2021 in Poznań. Currently, the Żabka Group operates the largest network of stand-alone stores in Europe, which has more than 50 outlets.

– We are pleased to be able to cooperate with Microsoft and Żabka Group at the largest business event in the world. Considering that recently the number of Żabka Nano stores supported by AiFi solutions exceeded 50, it can be concluded that the demand for self-checkout in grocery stores is growing rapidly. We are proud to have proven our ability to set up stand-alone stores in record time in cooperation with Żabka – said Steve Carlin, CEO of AiFi.

Żabka talks about his format

Representatives of the Żabka Group also spoke about online digital transformation since 2016 during the substantial part of the event. On January 15, Tomasz Blicharski was talking, among other things, about the Żabka Nano concept during the BIG Ideas session “Resilient retail. Get more with Microsoft Cloud for retail. The session was moderated by Shelley Bransten, Global Corporate Vice President, Retail & Consumer Goods Industries at Microsoft.

“Digital technology that enables experiences like self-driving stores is what separates successful retailers from those that lag behind,” said Shelley Bransten, global corporate vice president, Retail & Consumer Goods Industries at Microsoft. – We are delighted that in cooperation with Microsoft’s partner, AiFi, we can present a cashless solution for Żabka Nano stores at NRF 2023 and show the global retail sector what solutions are available for standalone stores thanks to the successful implementation in Żabka.

Żabka Nano focuses on technology acceleration

The operation of Żabka Nano is possible thanks to the use of innovative technologies with which the customer is already in contact at the entrance to the store. Access to the interior of the installation is possible after applying a payment card to the terminal. After that, the door opens automatically.
In the store, the customer selects the products that interest him and… leaves. It’s so simple! The camera system installed at Żabka Nano, operating on the basis of algorithms and machine learning, identifies the products removed from the shelves, charges the appropriate amount and automatically finalizes the payment using the payment card used at the ‘hall.
