The new head of the British government, Rishi Sunak, intends to “challenge” Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit in Indonesia. According to a British politician, the war in Ukraine has had negative effects around the world, devastating lives and throwing the international economy into chaos. The Prime Minister’s remarks are quoted by the British daily “The Daily Telegraph”.
– This G20 summit will not be a normal affair. We will appropriately name the Putin regime and expose its contempt for this kind of international cooperation and respect for sovereignty as represented by the G20 forum, Sunak said.
The British Prime Minister also stressed that, unlike Russia, London and its allies would work together to solve global problems.
G20 Summit
The G20 leaders’ summit will be held on November 15-16 on the Indonesian island of Bali.
In the spring, Indonesian President Joko Widodo invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin to the summit.
Recently, a spokesperson for the President of Ukraine announced that Volodymyr Zelensky would attend the G20 summit, most likely online.
In turn, Wednesday, November 9, the Bloomberg news agency said, citing “people familiar with planning”, that Putin, however, would not fly to the summit. “The Kremlin is trying to protect the president from possible high-level tensions related to the invasion of Ukraine he provoked,” the message read.
The agency also unofficially informs that Putin will be replaced at the G20 summit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov. This move aims to avoid possible confrontations with other world leaders, including US President Joe Biden. As US media recently reported, members of the US President’s administration have done everything possible to rule out the possibility of even an accidental meeting of the two politicians.
