Google for drivers. Here’s what’s new in Android Auto and more

Google for drivers. What’s new in Android Auto

Google at CES has paid special attention to drivers of electric cars, which is why the new features of Android Auto mainly concern electric cars. Vehicles compatible with the company’s system will share battery and range information in real time on Google Maps. This means that the navigation will be able to calculate the battery status in relation to the route, suggest optimal places to recharge the car and estimate the time (depending on the model) that a charging break will take.

The new functionality will be introduced gradually. Ford drivers will be the first to benefit: the feature will be available for the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning in the coming months.

That’s not all. Google has more news

Cars with Android/Google by default will benefit from the most new features

Android Auto is definitely growing. The new features mainly concern models compatible with the system offered by Google and Android pre-installed in cars instead of the proprietary system. These are among others Volvo and Polestarfor which the giant of Cuppertino will showcase the entire Chrome web browser. Drivers will have access to their favorites and information saved in their Google account, just like on a computer. The function is to be made available only in the parking lot: this is another step towards, among other things, “entertainment” while cars are charging.

There will also be… a digital car key

Several applications will also be made available: programs for children, or the weather channel providing information on current weather changes, or even Amazon Prime. Additionally, Google is working on a digital key that will allow you to open, lock and even start your car from your Android phone.

In Las Vegas, at CES, Google presented its new systems based on the Mustang Mach-E and the Polestar 3.
