Handed over Polityka passports. Enjoyed Friday and Masłowska

“Ten Cultures” – this is how this year’s award ceremony summed up by the weekly Polityka. For although Passports, as I said, were awarded in eight categories, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the plebiscite a special title culture maker three people were honored “over the past decades they have had a unique impact on Polish culture”.

The title has been awarded since 2022. Among those awarded to date are: Olga Tokarczuk, Maria Janion and Tadeusz Rozewicz. And also: Studio CD Projekt RED, Andrzej Wajda and Jerzy Owsiak.

This year, he was awarded: Dorota Maslowska, Guillaume Sasnal and Ryszard Poznakowski.

Passports “Polityka” 2022. Dorota Masłowska is the creator of culture

Dorota Maslowska was awarded for “to revolutionize the language of Polish literature, which over the past 30 years has been divided between the time before”War…“ and after”War…“. For the history of Poland, holding us a mirror, looking us in the head and exposing the bloated facade, behind which we can see the unleavened reality. Finally – for the creative and the brave who enter the language of cinema, theater and music to create new phenomena.

– Even though several wonderful brave artists were awarded today, I still feel that we live in an anti-women reality and that the culture of this country is also anti-women – said Dorota Masłowska, receiving the award.

And then: – For 20 years, I have been a victim and beneficiary of this culture and a passive witness. I would like to live in a reality where it is easier for women artists and where they have more rights to express what they want…

“Polityka” passport for Grzegorz Piątek

“Polityka” passports are awarded to exceptionally talented young artists who have distinguished themselves in a given year by their artistic activities and achievements. Artists who react creatively to changing reality, define new artistic directions, creatively enrich Polish and world culture.

He was the winner in the literature category Gregory Friday. The author was awarded for the book “Gdynia promised. City, modernism, modernization 1920-1939 » (WAB).

Friday was appreciated for an excellent story about a city that raises the question of modernizationand, as indicated, for the convincing deconstruction of the myth of the “city of the sea and dreams” and of the entire Polish interwar period.

Grzegorz Piątek was born in 1980 in Warsaw and graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology. He writes, lectures, speaks and shows. He curated numerous exhibitions, worked as an editor of the monthly “Architektura-Murator”, wrote columns for “Gazeta Stołeczna” and articles on architecture, design and the city. His books “Sanator: The Career of Stefan Starzyński” (2016) and “The Best City in the World. Warsaw under Reconstruction 1944-1949” (2020) received the Warsaw Capital Literary Prize Warsaw, “The Best City in the World ” was in the final of the Nike prize. The latest is “Gdynia promised. City, modernism, modernization 1920-1939” (WAB Editions). This time, the author faces the myth of “the city of the sea and the dreams”, finding a fascinating hero in another Polish city.
