Home Alone premiered in 1990. The film made $17 million in its first weekend and became so popular that it stayed in theaters long after the holiday season. The film ultimately grossed over $477 million worldwide. It’s not often that subsequent productions in a series are as successful as the original, but that was the case with the title “Kevin Alone in New York.” The film grossed $173 million in the United States and $359 million internationally, topping Home Alone’s earnings.

“Home Alone” begins with nervous preparations for the departure of the McCallisters, who decide to spend Christmas in Paris. Their 8-year-old Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) moans all the time and annoys everyone. His upset mother sends him to the attic and the next day the family leaves for the airport. Unfortunately, no Kevin. A surprised boy wakes up in an empty house. He is very happy to finally be able to do what he has always wanted to do. He soon discovers that two burglars, Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern), who specialize in stealing from temporarily abandoned buildings, are about to rob the McCallisters’ home. Kevin tries to defend the mansion alone.

In the second film of the series, Christmas is approaching again. This time, the McCallister family and their cousins travel to Florida for a vacation. Due to excessive sleep, they arrive at the airport literally at the last minute and, following a misunderstanding, Kevin, mistaking another man for his father, takes a plane to New York. The boy lands in this town and uses the money from his father’s bag to board at the Plaza Hotel, which piques the interest of the hotel concierge. Meanwhile, “wet bandits” – Harry and Marv – escape from prison and plan to rob a toy store. Kevin decides to stop him.
