Lower Silesia focuses on sports and active tourism. Interesting bike paths, unique tracks and bike parks have been created here for years. Soon, the bike offer will be extended by two other major investments.

Cycling training and racing track in Bielawa

The Lower Silesian Road Cycle Path will be the first such facility in Poland, with similar facilities only having been built in Britain. The idea of ​​building the track is supported by coaches and cyclists from Lower Silesia. Remember that an outstanding athlete and cycling legend, the late Ryszard Szurkowski launched this initiative.

The Lower Silesian Road Cycle Path will guarantee safe training for athletes. Currently, they take place on public roads, where the safety of athletes often depends directly on the behavior of motorists and, as experience shows, they unfortunately often end in injuries or accidents involving cyclists.

– The closed cycle path should be used primarily for professional training using various elements of cycling technique. Athletes can practice here, for example, time trials, sprints, move in a cycling group, ride in a peloton. In addition, it will also be possible to organize high-level cycling events there. – said Tymoteusz Myrda, member of the administrative board of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship responsible for sport and sports infrastructure.

The value of the investment is around PLN 20 million, half of which will be co-financed by the Ministry of Sports and Tourism, and the rest of the costs will be shared between the Lower Silesian Voivodeship and the municipality of Bielawa. The road cycling track will be built in two years.

– This will be a flagship investment in the field of this sporting discipline on a national scale. Bielawa is a place with great tourism and sports potential due to its location. I am glad that as a local government we are participating in the implementation of this investment, which will be used not only by athletes from Lower Silesia, but also by cyclists from all over Poland. – said Grzegorz Macko, Deputy Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.

The track design assumes the construction of a 4.5-5 km long loop with variable incline, with connectors to repeat, lengthen or shorten the lap distance, largely using the natural land.

The investment will serve as a training base for the Lower Silesian Sports Championship Schools team in Świdnica – the educational unit of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Autonomous Administration, which organizes sports training in cycling and in triathlon. This will allow greater specialization in training, a smooth transition to other categories after the end of secondary school (passing to the age of youth, which is often associated with the integration of the first groups of professional cyclists).

– Setting up the training and racing loop is a dream come true for me. The Bielawa region is very attractive for such an investment, both in terms of technology and physical load for cycling enthusiasts. Cycling environment will win a good place for training and racing – said Wacław Skarul, sports director of the Polish Cycling Association.

– This is an invaluable project for the cycling community. It will solve many organizational and training problems, especially for young people. It will be a state-of-the-art nationwide facility, which will enable the continued development of cycling in Poland – said Bolesław Bałd, vice-president of the Lower Silesian Cycling Association.

The facility will be used for training as part of the Lower Silesian Cycling Academy – a program aimed at developing the talents, skills and technical abilities of cyclists in Lower Silesia.

Lower Silesian Cycling Skill Parks

In mid-November, the administrative board of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship signed a letter of intent with the Ministry of Sports and Tourism regarding the construction of Lower Silesian bicycle skill parks. As part of this project, facilities will be created that will be accessible to everyone. They will be able to use professionally prepared routes and safe cycling infrastructure.

The Dolnośląskie Voivodeship and the Ministry of Sports and Tourism declare their readiness to co-finance the program up to 33% each. implementation costs. The remaining amount will be covered by willing municipalities. Recruitment for local governments that want to implement this investment in their region will be announced soon.

– Lower Silesia is a region with fine cycling traditions, which are maintained by the presence of a sports championship cycling school in Świdnica. The creation of a cycle path in Bielawa will further strengthen the role of the voivodship, conducive to the development of cycling, including professional road cycling. Another project, namely the Lower Silesian Cycle Parks, is an opportunity to develop mountain biking in a version accessible to everyone. – said Jacek Iwancz, councilor of the Sejmik of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.

The Bike Skills Parks will include, among others:

• an XC mountain bike course (it will be composed of a main path, a forest path or a single track wooded path),
• winding path with terrain obstacles,
• maneuvering area,
• pump track route with a length of min. 120 meters,
• mini pump track course for children from 4 to 7 years old, 50 to 100 meters long,
• path lighting, a shelter and a changing room container.

More investment for cyclists

In Polanica Zdrój, a cross-country bike is being built, that is, a bike center for mountain biking. The investment will include the construction of 4,400m long XC Courses to UCI World Cup and PZKOL standards, a 425m long bike skill park, three play areas for learning to ride a bike for children , and a pump track with a length of 195 m in September this year, the Polana Jakuszycka Sports Center, where, in addition to cross-country ski trails, summer volunteers have many kilometers to cover on their bikes. What is also important, the two-wheelers can be rented on site.
