Mateusz Cierniak won the first two Speedway Grand Prix 2 tournaments and before the last round, on the Toruń track, he was leading with a 12-point lead over the Czech Jan Kvech. The Lublin circuit rider clinched the championship title after the last start of the main lap.

– I don’t believe it yet. Maybe I’ll believe tomorrow. It’s been a very good season for me and the fifth medal – Cierniak said right after the competition.

In the first part of the competition, Wiktor Lampart, the second Motor junior, was undefeated and ranked 6th overall before the final tournament. Both players from Lublin went to the first semi-final and qualified for the final race. Their opponents were juniors from Włókniarz Częstochowa, Jakub Miśkowiak and Mateusz Świdnicki.

After the start, Leopard took the lead and confidently headed for a seventh round win and tournament-wide triumph. However, Świdnicki crashed on lap two and the race was called off. In the repeat, Miśkowiak was faster at the start and he won the competition in Toruń. The leopard of the whole cycle finally took fourth place, and if the final race had not been interrupted and he would have won the Motoarena competition, then he would have benefited from the vice-world junior championship.

The IMŚJ silver medal was won by Jan Kvech and the bronze medal by Miśkowiak.

Mateusz Cierniak is the second Motor Lublin speedway rider to win the Junior Individual World Championship title. In 1992, Australian Leigh Adams became champion. In contrast, in 1998, Robert Dados, a graduate of the Lublin club, became world junior champion, but he did so while driving for the Grudziądz team.

Cierniak is a pupil of the Union of Tarnów. In 2023, he will continue to drive in Motors. Bartosz Zmarzlik, fans of Al. Zygmuntowskis will be applauded by the two reigning world champions, juniors and seniors.
