Młociarz Wojciech Nowicki: Everyone knows we are the best in the world

European championship and vice-world championship – such achievements were recorded in 2022 by Wojciech Nowicki. The Polish hammer thrower is satisfied with the results achieved, however, he announces that next year in Budapest he will try to fight for the title of the best in the whole world.

– It was a very good stable year for me. I was also uninjured and no serious injuries. I am happy that it was well worked out and translated into such results. It makes me very happy. Two medals this season are a motivation to keep working. Next year it’s the world championships, and in two years the Olympic Games in Paris. I hope that my health will continue to be good and that I will be able to prepare well so that I can throw as far as possible – announced the athlete.

At the world championships, Eugene Nowicki lost to Fajdek, who has had a monopoly of triumph in this event for the past decade.

– This season I won ME gold and Paweł won World Championship gold. We exchange at the top. I’m very glad that’s the case. It is also a kind of motivation for me. I always try to compete with Paweł and fight for the best results. That’s why we mix. As Polish hammer throwers, we are leaders in world and European championships. Everyone has to do with us. It is a great promotion of our country. Everyone knows that we are the best in the world – admitted the Olympic champion from Tokyo, where in 2021 Fajdek was third.

When asked if they talk during competitions, Newicki replied: – We focus on work, but we always try to exchange two sentences. However, there is total concentration at the beginning.

Since last year’s triumph at the Olympics, the personal best of the competitor from Podlasie Białystok is 82.52 m. He already has two Olympic medals, as in 2016 he won bronze in Rio de Janeiro.

– The Olympic medals have changed a lot in my life. I appreciate that I was able to get them. I never thought I could achieve this. I just wanted to compete in the Olympics and managed to bring home two medals. I’m proud of it, but… we’re still working,” he said.

As he admitted, the Olympic successes did not significantly affect his situation, also financially, although it was the culmination of many years of work. – I had my sponsors for years and I thank them with all my heart for being by my side and wanting to cooperate with me. But I’m also open to other suggestions and I’ll be happy if anyone wants to join my team.

He announces that next year in Budapest he will try to fight for the title of world champion, because he is quadruple medalist of this event, but he misses the gold.

– I’ll try to fight for this missing gold, but we’ll see if it works. Now I’m back to training. We’re focusing on technique and building the core strength we need for long throws in the season starting in May. The most important thing is to prepare for the competition. If I am healthy, I will fight for the best results and places – he said.

– There is always something to improve in technique, there is always something to work on, no matter how far you throw. The perfect throw does not exist. We strive to achieve this, but there will always be gaps. The goal is to eliminate these errors. Things I can improve translate to better shots – Nowicki added.

The Polish hammer throw record holder is Fajdek, who reached 83.93m at the Janusz Kusociński Memorial in Szczecin in 2015. When asked if his ambition was to better the national record, he replied:- I would just try to cast further. I still believe in breaking my life record. If I could improve the Polish record, that’s cool, but I’m not focusing on that. (PAP)
