Tricity has twice entered the history of the most famous and important beauty pageant, Miss World. The first time thanks to Aneta Kręglicka from Gdańsk, who in 1989 was the first Polish woman to win the crown, and the second time in 2006, when 104 finalists from all over the world came to Tricity. It was then that Poland organized the 56th edition of the competition, and its final took place in Warsaw. On this occasion, the participants traveled the country for several weeks and discovered its attractions.
In September 2006, the Tricity received a visit from the most beautiful girls in the world. On the occasion of the Miss World competition held in Poland, everyone came to the Polish seaside, where they had the opportunity to see our tourist attractions. It was the first time in history that elections were held in Central and Eastern Europe.
However, before arriving at Rębiechów Airport, the Misskis traveled to Gdańsk a few months earlier. Unnur Birna Vilhjalmsdottir of Iceland, Miss World 2005. She came here to check out the places where the competition finalists will spend their time. The model then met, among others, with representatives of Tricity and walked along ul. Długa in Gdańsk.
At the beginning of September, the long-awaited Misses arrived in Tricity – stopped at Hotel in Nadmorski in Gdynia. The first day they rested, but soon they participated in the planned activities. Among other things, they planted fruit trees on Gdynia Boulevard, which still grow there today. The tree planting event attracted a large crowd of interested people who surrounded the girls and took photos with them. The Misskis also found time to play with the little ones under the care of the Must Dream Foundation.
Furthermore, during their multi-day visit, the finalists laid flowers at the Monument to the Murdered Gdańsk Shipyard Workers, visited the exhibition in the historic Occupational Health and Safety Hall and unveiled the inscription “Solidarity” made of stones. They also met Lech Walesa.
But in Sopot in the gardens big hotel participated in the Miss Beach competition. As you might guess, they paraded in swimsuits. The weather was nice that day: it was downright hot. This competition was not open to the public, but many people tried to catch a glimpse of the Misski through the hotel fence.
After a few days, the girls packed up and left for the next big city. The final of the 56th Miss World took place on September 30 in Warsaw and was won by a Czech.
