It’s tough in Gdynia Global. The World Cultures Festival is a permanent feature of the Tri-City’s summer party landscape. Annually at Kolibki Park the crowds come to commune with the music and folklore of the most remote regions of the globe. It was no different this time. This event has a unique atmosphere, and the music is just an addition.
Music Festivals in the Tri-City
The history of Globaltika dates back to 2005. Soon the festival will be 20 years old. A period of time during which many important artists have performed in Kolibki. They were among them Goran Bregovic, Sinead O’Connor, Leningrad if Cesaria Evora. Really big names. Plus, the cream of artists from around the world. From the start, the mission of the event was to present music and culture in a traditional and unchanged form, as well as with a modern look, showing how they can be redefined.
From the start, Globaltica drew crowds. Today, unfortunately, you can’t rely on big names in music like the ones mentioned above, but the festival already has such an established position and a regular audience that craves encounters with diverse people, performers and folklore.. He comes because he just wants to be here, to experience everything.
This year is no different. In Kolibki Park, from the beginning of the afternoon, people began to gather who not only came to concerts, but also wanted to participate in various entertainment activities. There were workshops, meditations, attractions for children. The later it was, the tighter it was. It was visible under the stage, in the breakout areas and in the food court.
There is always a special atmosphere at Globaltica. It’s a picnic first and foremost – it’s supposed to be fun. It’s a great opportunity to relax, to meet, to find something interesting and different. Once you walk through the doors, you feel everything. I don’t know if there is a festival in Poland where you feel so much cordiality. No one bothers anyone, everyone lives together, helps each other, has fun together.
Open’er: vouchers for canceled concerts
All this is accompanied by music. As I mentioned, there are no stars today. I wish that Globaltica went so far towards the niche, because it was able to combine everything very well. Nevertheless, the organizers manage to keep it all together pay and a moderation of sorts, introducing audiences to some of the most interesting names on today’s global music scene.
Day one was Troye Zillia – a Ukrainian artist who showed the full range of local music, playing with convention, combining old and new; Bab L’Bluz – a French-Moroccan quartet that presents how to combine widely understood blues music with the sounds of North Africa, and at the same time has something of the rock energy of the 70s; Cimarron – a Colombian formation that shows the world the folk style of Joropo, but has long since moved away from its traditional form. Today, the musicians play with convention, giving at the same time a colorful spectacle; and Lyraz – a phenomenal Israeli artist who not only searches for contemporary sounds, but also draws from her Iranian roots. There’s electronics, hip-hop, but also a nod to classic Persian melodies. Liraz is a one-man feminist revolution that strikes down the patriarchy and supports all women around the world.
Christine Salem will appear on Globaltica on Saturday, Mali 70, Koumbia Boruka if Mucambo. It’s a bit of a shame that the festival has given up presenting world cinema more widely, because it was very strong before point events. Today, these are unique sessions. The organizers focused more on all kinds of art and development workshops.
Nevertheless, it must be admitted that Globaltica is defending itself in its current form.. Of course, knowing the first editions, we can complain that the big brands do not come to the festival. But that’s not exactly what this festival is about either. These big names allowed the organizers to establish the position of the event. We have succeeded in bringing together a specific and loyal audience around the event, which does not come for the stars, but for the atmosphere and the desire to discover new cultures and artists from all over the world.. Now you can probably feel the atmosphere of the whole world more, and that was the goal from the beginning.
