September 23 falls International Day of Sign Language. According to the World Association of the Deaf, there are approximately 72 million deaf or speechless people in the world. In total, these people use about 300 different sign languages. There is also an international sign language, used when traveling and meeting deaf people from other countries.

- Every year, on September 23, we can also celebrate Native American Day. The popular term “Indian” which the native peoples of America “owe” to the error of Christopher Columbus, who thought he had circumnavigated the globe and reached India on the other side, so he called the inhabitants of the continent this way. So, even if completely wrong, the term “Indian” is still often used today to refer to America’s true hosts. Today, however, this day can be used to learn more about the cultural heritage of Native Americans and pay homage to their traditions and rich and often difficult history.
