The General Inspectorate for Environmental Protection analyzed the samples, none of them showed the presence of toxic substances – the Minister stressed. The Minister announced that the first batch of fish testing for the presence of pesticides has also been completed. The presence of pesticides was not reported in any of the species tested, said the minister.
The first hypothesis is potential the release of a toxic substancewhether due to the activities of companies operating on the Oder or illegal discharges into the river – she explained.
The second hypothesis is that the reasons were natural: high temperature, low water level and increased concentrations of pollutants.
As she added, the third variant tested is large quantities of industrial water, which contains a lot of chlorine, are discharged into the Oder. Chlorine could potentially activate bottom sediment contaminants, the minister explained.
She also pointed out that the simultaneous occurrence of these factors is also taken into account.
