The movie “Baptism”
Every year, film studios in Poland prepare a special offer of films on the occasion of Independence Day. November 11 is the Day of Polish Cinema, then you can watch the pre-premiere of the best films, appreciated at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.
Białystok Forum Cinema will show, among others “Hug me. Honey hunters” dir. Anna Blaszczyk. This is a film for children over 4 years old. The film is based on the bestseller by Przemysław Wechterowicz and Emilia Dziubak. It tells the story of Teddy Bear who goes with his father to the golden land for honey for his dream birthday cake. Can Little Bear show courage and independence during this incredible adventure?
Another film proposal is “Śubuk”, dir. Jacek Lusinsky. The story shown in the film is inspired by real events. The protagonist is a young mother of an autistic boy whose persistence and struggle against bureaucracy and lack of human heart has led to significant changes in the Polish education system. “Śubuk” is a moving story, filled with emotions, optimism and tender humor, about feminine strength, the joy of living, a different perception of the world and the hidden potential that lies dormant in each of us.
And the film “Słoń”, directed by Kamil Krawczycki, is a story about Bartek, who runs a farm in Podhale. Her father left the family, which caused her mother to break down. It was therefore Bartek who was to become the head of the family. One day, their neighbor dies and his son Dawid comes to the funeral. Bartek is fascinated by David and his carelessness. The first love forces him to decide if he is ready to achieve his freedom.
On Polish Cinema Day, you can also see the film “Woman on the Roof”, dir. Anna Jadowska. It tells the story of Mira, a midwife approaching retirement age, mother of a grown son and wife of a husband who has forgotten her. A few seemingly minor financial decisions lead to a catastrophe that will completely transform his family, professional and psychological reality.
The latest proposal is the film “Baptism”, directed by Jakub Skoczeń. It is December 1981. Marianna, a zealous Catholic, decides to use the family celebration – the baptism of her youngest grandson – to reconcile her children who have been quarreling for years. General Jaruzelski, who declares martial law that day, will unexpectedly prevent it. Wanting to end the family reconciliation, Marianna decides to hide the truth about the situation in the country from her children. This seemingly small lie will trigger an avalanche of unexpected events that will be difficult to stop.
