Of the cast of “The Two Who Stole the Moon”, only Kaczyski is alive. 60 years have passed since the premiere of the film | Policy

The main violin in this story was played by Stanisław Miedza-Tomaszewski, artist, Home Army soldier and brother-in-law of Jadwiga Kaczyńska. The brothers’ uncle heard they were looking for twins for the film and responded to the ad – he wrote their names and address on a piece of paper torn from his notebook and sent it off. – Other candidates have provided their photos – and here only the surnames, first names and address. The filmmakers were amused by the form of submission. They decided to find out who the announced boys were. They sent me an invitation to the qualifying rounds. The sons wanted to go to them, so we went – she said years later Jadwiga Kaczyńska, mother of twins.

“Rather clever” the Kaczynski brothers

At that time, the brothers were very interested in the film, they read reviews, and Jarosław dreamed of acting in a film, although it was a “very abstract dream, like winning a million on a lottery ticket”. Of more than 70 sets of twins that reached the casting, only a few were selected, including the Kaczyński family. Jaroslaw claimed that they won the casting due to their mature age and “good brains”. Lech – because “they looked good”.

My grandmother, a cinephile, with whom the twins practiced scenes during the qualifying round, also contributed to the victory. Most important, however, as in the whole life of the Kaczyński family, was his mother, who took a long vacation from high school, where she was a Polish teacher, so that she could be with her sons while working on the plateau. His constant presence has been immortalized in the pictures of the film studio “Kadr” – talk to actress Helena Grossówna or editor Maria Mastalińska. However, the grandmother who changed Jadwiga Kaczyńska by taking care of her grandchildren was not immortalized.

We had to be careful because the ideas of the filmmakers were not always judicious. There was, for example, the idea that the twins should be roped from the fourth floor on artificial pelicans – figures filled with electricity, covered with goose skins. Mom’s protest resulted in the puppets being lowered, which actually fell the first time.

The “Two Chorts” who set fire to the Grand Hotel apartment

“About Two Who Stole the Moon” was filmed in the dunes near Łeba and in Łódź. In the studio – as they themselves recalled – they experienced the world of theater. They accosted Aleksandra Śląska, had dinner with Bogumił Kobiel and also met Marek Kondrat, who at the time was working on the Yellow Ciżemki story. – There were a lot of colorful people in the team, but there were no characters – in today’s ugly language – bastards, which so often occur in this world – said Jarosław Kaczyński.

One year younger than the brothers Marek Kondrat recalled that Kaczyński of that time:

It was two shorts who lived in the same hotel with their stepmom and turned it upside down. They were an unmanageable element, an educational problem for everyone, because – in order for them to do anything at the whistle – they first had to be pacified

The aforementioned hotel is the Grand in Łódź, and the twins did. They tricked the production manager, Włodzimierz Grocholski, into a smoke candle. Jaroslaw pulled it into the room, and after a while it filled with thick, sticky smoke. – It stank inhumanly. My mother had to pay for a solid extra cleaning, polishing and restoration of burnt furniture, he said in 1998.

But he couldn’t explain why he had done it. “Of course I wasn’t crazy, I knew you couldn’t light a candle in a hotel, I was going to light it somewhere more appropriate.” But curiosity won out: “and if I can do it, what will it be?” – said in an interview with “Rzeczpospolita”.

“That’s when I decided to become a politician”

Grocholsky insured in “Polityka”that the crew made sure the acting episode didn’t affect the brothers’ lives. – We’ve had experiences with kids playing in movies before – fame just made them dumb, it made them crazy. We have worked hard to prevent the same from happening to our brothers. We wanted to make them aware that outside of filming they still have normal tasks – to learn, to keep order around them – he said.

The filmmakers, notes the weekly, had no influence on the reception of the film by Kaczyński’s peers. After the premiere, Jarosław and Lech weren’t liked too much, because they were different kids their fame envied them. “Many years later, when the brothers reach two of the most serious positions in the country and psychologists desperately seek the key to this phenomenon, after all, the role of the cinematic episode and its effects will be considered very broadly Psychologists will ask themselves: is it already born feeling alienated and believing that everyone is against them?” – wrote “Polityka”.

It was certainly then that Lech had an idea for a career. – That’s when I decided to stay politician – he said in an interview “About two such … Alphabet of the Kaczyński brothers”. Jarosław would have thought of such a path earlier, before the shooting of Jan Batory’s film.
