Among the topics discussed at the Davos Economic Forum, President Andrzej Duda mentioned e.g. the question of nuclear energy, the diversification of energy supplies and climate change.
President Duda – along with other leaders – took part in a debate titled “In Defense of Europe” on Tuesday morning at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “We talked about the security of Europe, the defense of Europe, of course in the context of Russian aggression against Ukraine. So Ukraine basically dominated this discussion,” Andrzej Duda stressed. during a subsequent meeting with journalists.
According to the president, the participants of the multi-day forum in Davos will certainly discuss “how to defend Ukraine, and then how to rebuild Ukraine”. As he said, this is a task not only for Europe and Ukraine’s neighbors, but for the whole world. The point, he stressed, is that Ukraine “return to a normal path of development as soon as possible, as soon as possible after this Russian aggression, this terrible destruction that the Russians are causing in Ukraine with their bestial bombings.”
As he also pointed out, the Davos forum is an economic event, so discussions will certainly also focus on economic issues in Europe and around the world. “It will also be discussed in terms of climate protection, and here too there will be very important topics for Poland, because, among other things, there will be discussions about modern energy solutions” – he stressed.
He noted that the topics include: the issue of nuclear power plants, modern technologies, which we also want to implement in Poland. Andrzej Duda recalled that Poland has signed state-level agreements with the United States and American companies for the construction of nuclear power plants in Poland. “But we also have private initiatives in this area, of course supported by the Polish authorities” – he noted, adding that these were agreements with South Korean companies.
According to the president, another subject of the Davos forum will be the diversification of sources of supply, “also in terms of Russian gas”. “How to apply the sanctions, to prevent the use of Russian energy sources. Although, of course – it must be specified – if Russia becomes a normal state again, not an aggressor, (…) it will be possible” – he said.
