The match between Thailand and Canada kicked off the competition in Group F of the second phase of the World Cup. It was a very important match for the Polish national team, which is still in Game to advance to the quarter-finals. Heading into this match, the Thais were in a better position with four wins, while their Canadian rivals were down one win.
Canada is better than Thailand. Good news for Polish women
The first set of this match had little history. Canada quickly gained a few points advantage, which they easily carried to the end of the set, winning 25:19.
The following sets brought more emotions. In the second set, Canada reached a two-three point advantage several times, but the Thais managed to equalize after 16. The decisive part of this match, however, belonged to the Canadians, who won at 21.
Thai women stood against the wall, and in the third set it lasted a very long time, quite unusual for women volleyball point-to-point game. Suffice it to say that throughout the set, neither team had a more than three-point lead, and in the second half of the game even a two-point lead was rare. This time, however, in the end, the Thai team kept more composure, because although Canada led 23:22, the last three points of this set went to the players of Asia, who, thanks to the attacks successes of their leader Pimpichaya (24 points), won the set (25:23) and extended his chances of winning the whole match.
The Thai volleyball players also started the fourth game well. They even led 10:7, but then had a stoppage in play, which gave Canada a two-point lead (11:13) and took the lead in that set. The Thai women chased their rivals with ambition and led to a 22:22 draw and another even finish. This time, however, it belonged to the Canadians. Thanks to finished attacks from the best of the Canadian side, Alexa Gray and Kiera Van Ryk (both with 25 points) won at 22 and all game 3:1.
Canada beat Thailand 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22) to earn their fourth World Cup win ahead of table the Polish team. The Poles, who will face Serbia in the evening (8:30 p.m.), with three victories fall back to seventh place in group F, but paradoxically the result of this match is beneficial to them in the context struggle for the quarter-finals, as it keeps Thailand and Canada within their points range.
