On Saturday morning (October 14), more than 140 chess players showed up at the Suwałki Arena and competed all day in this year’s Polish Flash Chess Championship.
For the second time in a row, Suwałki hosts the Polish Chess Championship. More than 140 participants from the OPEN and WOMEN categories registered for this year’s Polish Blitz Chess Championship at the Suwałki Arena. The pace of the game is 3 minutes + 2 seconds per move. Evaluation of results and competition system in accordance with the regulations of the Polish Chess Federation. Suwalki was visited by, among others, International Champion, future grandmaster Jakub Kosakowski, who defends his silver medal from last year. The star of the Suwałki competition is grandmaster Klaudia Kulon, multi-medalist at the Polish, European and world championships.
– Our hall, normally used for volleyball, will now also be used for chess players for the second year in a row. It’s good that you came to our city to participate in the Polish Lightning Chess Championship. We feel that there is a good atmosphere here. We always want to be open to various initiatives and ideas. we have sports facilities that are supposed to serve us, something is supposed to happen there – Czesław Renkiewicz, president of Suwałki, said at the official opening of the event.
The competition is organized by the Jaćwież Suwałki Chess Club and co-organized by the Polish Chess Federation and the Suwałki Sports and Recreation Center. The winners receive the Polish individual and team Lightning chess championship titles. The organizer guarantees a prize pool of financial prizes of a minimum amount of 15,000 PLN and 5,000 PLN in material prizes.
